2: We establish the global existence of $L^\infty$ solutions for 

3: a model of polytropic gas flow with diffusive entropy. The result 

4: is obtained by showing the convergence of a class of finite difference 

5: schemes, which includes the Lax--Friedrichs and Godunov schemes.  

6: Such convergence is achieved by proving 

7: the estimates required for the application of the 

8: compensated compactness theory.
