2:   We study the Strang splitting scheme for quasilinear Schr\"odinger

3:   equations. We establish the convergence of the scheme for solutions

4:   with small initial data. We analyze the linear instability of the

5:   numerical scheme, which explains the numerical blow-up of large data

6:   solutions and connects to the analytical breakdown of regularity of

7:   solutions to quasilinear Schr\"odinger equations. Numerical tests

8:   are performed for a modified version of the superfluid thin film

9:   equation.
