2: In this paper we prove some divisibility properties of the cardinality of 

3: elliptic curve groups modulo primes. These proofs explain the good behavior of 

4: certain parameters when using Montgomery or Edwards curves in the setting

5: of the elliptic curve method (ECM) for integer factorization. 

6: The ideas behind the proofs help us to find new infinite families of elliptic

7: curves with good division properties increasing the success

8: probability of ECM.
