2:   We explicitly describe the Albanese morphism

3:   of a hyperelliptic variety,

4:   i.e., the quotient~$X$ of an abelian variety~$A$ by a finite group~$G$

5:   acting freely and not only by translations,

6:   by giving a description of the Albanese variety

7:   and the Albanese fibers in terms of~$A$ and~$G$.

8:   In particular, the fibers are themselves abelian or hyperelliptic varieties,

9:   and we investigate which can occur in explicit examples.

10:   As an application

11:   we show that the derived category of~$X$ is indecomposable in certain cases.
