2: We study a $U(N)\times U(N)$ symmetric scalar field model in four and three

3: dimensions. First, using our data in four dimensions in the weak coupling

4: region, we demonstrate explicitly that

5: the observed first order phase transition is induced by quantum fluctuations.

6: Next, based on the renormalization group and our new simulation results in

7: three dimensions

8: we argue that even if the $U_A(1)$ symmetry is restored {\it below} the

9: critical temperature the QCD finite temperature chiral phase transition

10: for two flavor could be extremely weak first order.
