2: We introduce a simple open-ended model which describes

3: the emergence of a shared vocabulary. 

4: The ordering transition towards consensus is generated only 

5: by an agreement mechanism. 

6: This interaction defines a finite and small 

7: number of states, despite each individual having the ability to 

8: invent an unlimited number of new words. 

9: The existence of a phase transition is studied, analyzing 

10: the convergence times, the cognitive efforts of the agents 

11: and the scaling behaviour in memory and time.
