2: In this paper we address the question of whether 

3: it is possible to integrate time-dependent 

4: high-dimensional PDEs with hierarchical tensor 

5: methods and explicit time stepping schemes. 

6: To this end, we develop sufficient conditions 

7: for stability and convergence of tensor solutions 

8: evolving on tensor manifolds with constant rank.

9: We also argue that the applicability of PDE solvers with 

10: explicit time-stepping may be limited by time-step restriction 

11: dependent on the dimension of the problem. 

12: Numerical applications are presented and discussed 

13: for variable coefficients linear hyperbolic and parabolic PDEs.
