2: We show that certain right-invariant metrics endow the

3: infinite-dimensional Lie group of all smooth

4: orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms of the circle with a

5: Riemannian structure. The study of the Riemannian exponential map

6: allows us to prove infinite-dimensional counterparts of results

7: from classical Riemannian geometry: the Riemannian exponential map

8: is a smooth local diffeomorphism and the length-minimizing

9: property of the geodesics holds.
