2: 	This paper introduces iterated monodromy groups for transcendental

3: 	functions and discusses them in the simplest setting, for

4: 	post-singularly finite exponential functions. These groups are

5: 	self-similar groups in a natural way, based on an explicit

6: 	construction in terms of kneading sequences. We investigate the group

7: 	theoretic properties of these groups, and show in particular that they

8: 	are amenable, but they are not elementary subexponentially amenable.
