1: \begin{abstract}

2: A summary is presented of a meeting on Particles and Fields 

3: in Radio Galaxies held in Oxford in August 2000. Recent detailed

4: studies of radio maps and the first X-ray images from Chandra X-ray

5: Observatory, together with new capabilities in simulating 

6: hydromagnetic flows, are transforming our understanding of how jets

7: are formed by accretion disks orbiting massive black holes, how these

8: jets dissipate and how they inflate the giant radio-emitting lobes

9: by which they were first identified. As they can be imaged 

10: in such detail, extragalactic radio sources remain central

11: to the study of jet outflows in general although there is a 

12: strong convergence with corresponding studies of Galactic superluminal

13: sources, gamma ray bursts and young stellar objects.
