2: We study the weak convergence (in the high-frequency limit) of the parameter

3: estimators of power spectrum coefficients associated with Gaussian,

4: spherical and isotropic random fields. In particular, we introduce a

5: Whittle-type approximate maximum likelihood estimator and we investigate its

6: asympotic weak consistency and Gaussianity, in both parametric and

7: semiparametric cases.
