2: The Self-Healing Umbrella Sampling (SHUS) algorithm is an adaptive biasing

3: algorithm which has been proposed in~\cite{SHUS} in order to

4: efficiently sample a multimodal probability measure. We show that

5: this \linebreak method can be seen as a variant of the well-known Wang-Landau

6: algorithm~\cite{wang-landau-01,wang-landau-01-PRL}. Adapting

7: results on the convergence of the Wang-Landau

8: algorithm obtained in~\cite{fort:jourdain:kuhn:lelievre:stoltz:2014}, we prove the

9: convergence of the SHUS algorithm. We also compare the two methods in

10: terms of efficiency. We finally propose a modification of the SHUS algorithm in order to increase its efficiency, and exhibit some similarities of SHUS with the well-tempered metadynamics method~\cite{barducci-bussi-parrinello-08}.
