2: We propose a coupled multigrid method

3: for generalized Stokes flow problems. Such problems occur as subproblems

4: in implicit time-stepping approaches for time-dependent Stokes problems. 

5: The discretized Stokes system is a large-scale linear system whose condition

6: number depends on the grid size of

7: the spatial discretization and of the length of the time step. Recently,

8: for this problem a coupled multigrid method has been proposed, where

9: in each smoothing step a Poisson problem has to be solved (approximately)

10: for the pressure field.

11: In the present paper, we propose a coupled multigrid method where

12: the solution of such sub-problems is not needed.

13: We prove that the proposed method shows robust convergence behavior

14: in the grid size of the spatial discretization and of the length 

15: of the time-step.
