2: Iterative minimization algorithms appear in various areas including 

3: machine learning, neural network, and information theory.

4: The em algorithm is one of the famous 

5: iterative minimization algorithms

6: in the former area,

7: and Arimoto-Blahut algorithm is a typical 

8: iterative algorithm

9: in the latter area.

10: However, these two topics had been separately studied for a long time.

11: In this paper, we generalize an algorithm that was recently proposed in the context of 

12: Arimoto-Blahut algorithm.

13: Then, we show various convergence theorems, one of which covers the case when

14: each iterative step is done approximately.

15: Also, we apply this algorithm to the target problem in em algorithm, and propose 

16: its improvement.

17: In addition, we apply it to other various problems in information theory.
