3: A new approximation of the cluster variational method is introduced

4: for the three--dimensional Ising model on the simple cubic lattice. 

5: The maximal cluster is, as far as we know, the largest ever used in

6: this method. A message--passing algorithm, generalized belief

7: propagation, is used to minimize the variational free

8: energy. Convergence properties and performance of the algorithm are

9: investigated.

11: The approximation is used to compute the spontaneous magnetization,

12: which is then compared to previous results. Using the present results

13: as the last step in a sequence of three cluster variational

14: approximations, an extrapolation is obtained which captures the

15: leading critical behaviour with a good accuracy.
