2: We consider a version of large population games 

3: whose players compete for resources

4: using strategies with adaptable preferences. 

5: The system efficiency is measured by the variance of the decisions. 

6: In the regime where the system can be plagued 

7: by the maladaptive behavior of the players, 

8: we find that {\it diversity} among the players 

9: improves the system efficiency, 

10: though it slows the convergence to the steady state.

11: Diversity causes a mild spread of resources at the transient state,

12: but reduces the uneven distribution of resources in the steady state.
